The Young Leaves - 'Alive and Well' and Addictive

The Young Leaves 2013 full-length is 'Alive and Well' and Addictive

It’s garage, it’s indie, it’s the band from your 1994 prom, it’s The Young Leaves.

I had the pleasure of catching The Young Leaves' record release show with Born Without Bones and Save Ends back in October before all three jetsetted to Florida for FEST, and ever since then, I’ve wandered back to the band whenever I crave some solid local music.

Rock Out With Your Cocktail Out Vol. XVI

Get fancy - use a glass. (image credit)

Pumpkin domination. A lot of October cocktails floating around the internets these days call for Black Vodka, which I've already decided tastes like black licorice and food coloring. Keep it simple with pumpkin beer while staying classy with fancy glasses. And keep it eerie with the October playlist featuring local Boston bands Beware the Dangers of a Ghost Scorpion and Walter Sickert & The Army of Broken Toys.

Rock Out With Your Cocktail Out Vol. XV

Here's to forgetting how much moving sucks

While you're developing carpal tunnel screwing together your ambitious IKEA Expedit purchase that will most likely end up on Craigslist in eight months, click play on the September ROWYCO playlist and mix up some Apple Cider Sangria, courtesy of Pennsylvania food blog, How Sweet It Is.

Animals Sell Part 2 - Frantic: Attaque of the Grizzlie

Case in point. This dude was holding a kitten, so I bought his record. Frantic's Attaque of the Grizzlie full length (Douche Master Records / Die Slaughterhaus) is a rampage of early Adolescents influenced garage / hardcore punk. I knew nothing / still don't know much about this (now defunct) band, but took a chance at a record store. The 12-song LP is a playground for distorted reverb, features a Government Issue cover and should be played loud at all times.

My decision making skills are class A.

Rock Out With Your Cocktail Out Vol. VII

Excuse me, my eyes are up here. I will give you a dollar if you say no one stared at your slimmer green cocktail while you sat at the bar, sipping a Pearl Harbor. I like to order this drink because 8 out 10 bartenders don't know what I'm talking about. Try the Midori melon concoction while you're listening to my January playlist.

Rock Out With Your Cocktail Out Vol. IV

Rumor has it, due to a less than adequate harvest this year, the price of apple cider will rise. Better stock up if you want to make the October Rock Out With Your Cocktail out drink, Sparkling Chambord Cider. Awesome playlist availability not affected by bad apples.

Rock Out With Your Cocktail Out Vol. III

I have unintentionally acquired a lot of school teacher friends who are pretty much the biggest whine faces on the internets. You are two days into work after a three month vacation. You are not allowed to have a Christmas break count down already! I love you guys, but honestly, screw you. Know how my summer was? It was a big pile of paper work and hearing about how much you love the beach.

This drink is dedicated to all the hardworking office folk like myself who need a break. Forget an apple for the teacher, here's a caramel apple martini for the executive. And a fucking good playlist too.

Rock Out With Your Cocktail Out Vol. II

As a die-hard Pinot Noir junkie, I know it's tough being a red wine drinker in the summer. Somehow, your go-to full bodied vino just isn't as refreshing as you need it to be.

White wine makes you sick / black out / angry (just me? okay), Pink Moscato tastes like Kool-Aid, there are too many insults for Zinfandel, and yes, Sangria is amaz-balls, but even that can get repetitive. Blasphemy I know, but it's true. I was at a loss until a shiny label caught my eye. Sweet Red Wine? Don't mind if I do. Sweet Red Wine with a tremendously awesome August Spotify playlist? My summer is complete.
