Grotesque, Self-Pity and Rot – Lady Bones’ Debut LP is Ugly Pop

Follow the ugly-poppers down the path, but allow me to forewarn you—
there are vicious surprises lurking in the dark.

That clichéd phrase, “never judge a book by its cover” comes to mind quickly at first glance of Lady Bones' debut full-length album ‘Dying’ (Midnight Werewolf Records). The spooky album cover, the collection of songs with titles like “Nest”, “Wet”, “Dead Dogs”, and “Amen Dead Friend” all create a bleak and abrasive aesthetic character.

Yet amidst all the grime, hate, and chaos, I'll be damned if there isn’t still a share of whistle-friendly choruses buried in the songs like diamonds in a tar pit.

Lady Bones Joins Midnight Werewolf Records

Big news from the Lady Bones camp. Exciting news in the near future.

Boston-based Midnight Werewolf Records (Kal Marks, Sneeze), specializing in both vinyl and cassette releases, announced yesterday that local indie-rock trio Lady Bones has joined their DIY label.

"Lady Bones has been rocking out for almost 4 years and have self-released a split cassette (with Horsehands) as well as a three song demo (which you can listen to here). This band right now is one of my total favs and trust me when I say I am honored to welcome them to the MWR family. Keep your eyes peeled, cause damn, we got some exciting fucking news to announce in the very near future. Keep the shit in your pants and go shovel the sidewalk you asshole."

(We kept the last sentence in there for a PSA moment. Lazy jerks.) Lady Bones is just one of many Boston-area artists to recently align themselves with a complimentary label in the ever-Herculean task of producing and promoting local music.

Boston based boutique music promotion, booking and management company, As Built Presents, brings us a super stacked show at O’Brien’s Pub, Allston this Friday, June 20th.

Hang out at Allston Rock City’s premiere (and our favorite) venue for new music as locals Kal Marks, Guillermo Sexo and Lady Bones share the stage with New York grunge rock band Slothrust and Transatlantic gruff and grunge punk outfit Pale Angels featuring Mike Santostefano of Crimes (NJ), The Arteries' (UK) Jamie Morrison and a guy named Mikey Erg.

8pm doors / $10 / 21+. View the official Facebook event page for more information. Come early, stay late and support local and touring bands. It's always a pleasure watching Mikey Erg play, but we're stoked for the energetic and majorly talented Lady Bones' set.

“Courtesy Moans” Makes My Lady Bones Tingle

Allston's Lady Bones is the next band to put on your radar.

See what I did there? Back in September, Allston indie rock band Lady Bones collaborated with local experimental rock band, Horsehands, to release a 4-song split. Side note, if gremlins made music, I’m certain it would sound something like Horsehands’ contribution.
