Craigslist Rental Listings - The Downfall of Humanity

Craigslist - A place where real estate agents give zero fucks and you can't do anything about it.

When perusing Craigslist for quality living spaces in a city saturated with college students who harbor the same level of expectations for their apartments as they do their beer and employed thirty-somethings that find themselves tumbling into the cavernous gap that was the middle class – renting in the Boston area proves to be a challenge. Thank goodness we have the expert guidance of trustworthy real estate agents who specialize in rentals. Imagine a world without their sophisticated insider knowledge, helpful photography and honesty.

There has to be a special place in hell for these people. Aside for my interest in the proper use of the English language and taking pride in one's work, just as a self respecting human being alone, I feel extremely compelled to form a taskforce to bring down these wordsmiths who say things like “pristine and elegant” to describe a rusty bathroom last updated in 1978, assume i can look past the absolute squaller their photographs communicate to see the "unique craftsman details", and for being the completely inconsiderate and unprofessional asshole who uses a term like “buttrageous” to entice me into a sale. The following are real Craiglist listings that got me real riled up.

In the News: Sharks and Beer

A Great White Shark was spotted off the shores of Cape Cod [VIDEO]. In other news, Narragansett re-releases the iconic 1975 can from ‘Jaws’. Discuss.

Bloghead Podcast Signs Off - Ocelot Records Takes Over

Bloghead Podcast creator Steve Knowles makes room for new project, Ocelot Records.

After 3 years and 42 episodes, Boston Bloghead (aka Bloghead Podcast) has signed off for the last time. Originally established at the end of 2010 as a website dedicated to detailing the Boston rock and punk scene, Bloghead soon branched out to include a podcast, show booking and promotions entity and a spinoff podcast, “New England Local Lode” manned by Bloghead co-host Jason Powers.

In a recent announcement, founder Steve Knowles explains, “The time has come to say farewell to Boston Bloghead. It was a tough decision to make, but new music adventures (and life) have stripped away all the time for blogging, podcasting and the like.”

Noise Atlas Navigates the Sounds of Boston

Boston's newest organizational tool. Noise Atlas is the online database for Boston bands.

Plagued with the popular issue of drawing a blank when looking for that perfect last band to make the most prolific new lineup (preferably in the garage genre, ideally available late May...anyone?), Tim Oxton (Wakes, Polaroids) has created, what in retrospect, appears to be an obvious and brilliant solution like flat bottom taco shells or Kbrakes.

A Review of the Drunk Nuns, "A Parting Shot" (EP)

Download your copy of A Parting Shot for free on bandcamp.

One of our favorite local punk and hardcore enthusiast, Nick Gold from Run, Don't Walk Music Blog, covered the new Drunk Nun's A Parting Shot EP with such enthusiasm that we really couldn't have said it better ourselves. So we asked politely, and he let us repost his review on Bishop And Rook. Networking.

Before They Were #RUMBLE35

Before they were #RUMBLE35, they were playing local shows and putting out music, eager to attract new fans and new opportunities. ... I mean, they're still doing these things, but now they have "Rock 'N' Roll Nominee" to add to their repertoire! With a rising bar tab and our laptop running on low battery, Bishop And Rook has previously featured several bands of the recently announced Rock 'N' Rumble Class of 2014.

Follow Bishop And Rook on Twitter and Facebook as we post a new band's 'Before They Were #RUMBLE35" story at 1pm each day this week.

Rock Out With Your Cocktail Out Vol. XXI

Petite, delicious, punk rock. Oi Oi Oi! (Image credit)

Do you suffer from Chronic Polar Vortex Syndrome? Symptoms include numbness, loss of balance and weeklong Netflix binges. If so, non-medical tests have concluded that music and alcohol can help! Our "all lion, no lamb" March Rock Out With Your Cocktail Out playlist is an ideal addition to any Hashtag Fuck Snow party and includes locals like Ghost Thrower, Twin Berlin and OC45 (they all have shows coming up, go to them). Plus get seasonal with a Baby Guinness shot, a delicious concoction we first had while hanging out with Joe Sib and Dave Hause at Highland Kitchen after their set at the Somerville Armory a few years back. Cheers!

DJ Jeff Breeze working. Kristin creeping. Follow Bishop And Rook on Instagram!

From podcasts in January to FCC regulated radio in February, Bishop And Rook is making the rounds on the airwaves!

Our friend DJ Jeff Breeze over at WMBR's local music show Pipeline! was nice enough to let use hang out Tuesday night, talk shop, promote the Bishop And Rook Flirty Thirty Birthday Show happening February 15th in Allston, and let said Birthday Show band, Save Ends, jam out live on air. Hashtag No Swearing. Hashtag Muffins.

We had a blast playing Rebuilder, Shambles, Choke Up, The Okay Win, M.G. Letterman and not actually knowing what to do in a professional radio station.

Listen to the February 11th show over at the official Pipeline! website, follow them on Facebook and Twitter, and tune into 88.1FM (Cambridge/Boston) or listen online every Tuesday from 8p-10p for the newest music coming out of the New England area.

Keep the Boston Compass Alive

For $2 a month, you can help keep the Boston Compass alive.

The relatively viral and low cost nature of the internets may have snuffed out the Zine Era, but in true Boston underdog fashion, independent music newspaper, The Boston Compass (a monthly newspaper navigating you to underground, above ground and all around awesome happenings in the Greater Boston area), continues to supply the masses with local music news and events. However, tied to a shoestring budget, the Compass needs your help.

Bishop And Rook Guest DJs the 'Break Out Bands of 2014' Podcast For Mutiny on the Microphone

Tune into Boston podcast, Mutiny on the Microphone, for music
and informative tidbits about the local scene.

Oh geeze, someone let us talk on the radio.

Kristin discusses her predictions for breakout Boston bands of 2014 in this week’s Mutiny on the Microphone podcast!

We must be doing something right because Adam over at Mutiny and the Microphone was nice enough to let me stumble my way through a list of eleven bands that blew my mind in 2013 and can only get bigger in the New Year. I promise, only one kitten tangent. Not too shabby for our first podcast appearance.

Happy Birthday Kurt Vonnegut

Kurt Vonnegut would have been 91 today. Happy Birthday to my most favorite author / humanist / sarcastic old punk.

“If you want to really hurt your parents, and you don’t have the nerve to be gay, the least you can do is go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possible can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.” — A Man Without a Country

Bishop And Rook Year End Stats

'Never Fail Chocolate Chip Cookies' recipe was the top blog post of 2012 and 'Gym Motivation' was, BY FAR, the most popular search term. You confused and contradicting individuals, I love you.

Cheers to the Liebster Award!

TWO Liebster Awards?! Pretty damn cool. I’m doing something right.

I was awarded the Liebster by Sarabell at Sarah Being Sarabell and Brandi of No Map Provided (both very awesome blogs). Liebster is a German word which means dearest. This award is for new bloggers who have less than 200 followers and helps give them recognition and support. It's also a great way to let someone know how much you love their blog!

Thank you Sarabell and Brandi, this is awesome!
