The Restless Atlantic - 'Chasm'

Chasm’ is a 9-track modern-day melodic rock record strung together by the sincere efforts of a young band.

You could name drop for days if you were to attempt to compare ‘Chasm’, the debut LP from The Restless Atlantic, to a similar sounding record. And that’s not necessarily a terrible thing. The Portland, Maine quartet demonstrates their influences from classic rock to grinding mid-era screamo, with a sprinkle of nostalgic 90’s emo to ground their driving sound.

Lead singer Cameron Wheelock ranges from Chris Conley to Claudio Sanchez, although we prefer the Saves the Day spectrum on tracks like “Darlin” and “Some Shine, Some Don’t”. Certainly more straight laced and practiced than other records that have come across our desk as of late, (Boston is heavily into slouchy, fuzz, distorted basement music right now. Whadyagonnado.), ‘Chasm’ is a 9-track modern-day melodic rock record strung together by the sincere efforts of a young band.

Not that you need a reason to road trip it up to Portland (ALL.OF.THE.FOOD), but The Restless Atlantic will be playing the first installment of Emo Night (Tears in Your Beer), Portland's “first and most awesome all-emo music and angst night” happening June 5th at Portland's newest music venue - Portland House Of Music & Events (aka HOME - 25 Temple Street, Portland), sponsored by Narragansett. Area bands will be covering the likes of Taking Back Sunday, Weezer, Brand New, Death Cab For Cutie, Jimmy Eat World, Cursive and most likely anything else found in your 2002 CD booklet.
