#BandcampRoulette

The beautiful and haunting sounds of Center of the Sun (NC), a band rumored to be on permanent hiatus via the abundance of exaggerated Facebook finale posts, lives on in the Bandcamp directory. “Cease” off of their 2012 record, Machine Gun, is a melancholy mixture of Metric and Mazzy Star. The entire record is reminiscent of Julee Cruise (Twin Peaks) and the beautiful multicolored splatter vinyl is still available for purchase at Self Aware Records.

“Courtesy Moans” Makes My Lady Bones Tingle

Allston's Lady Bones is the next band to put on your radar.

See what I did there? Back in September, Allston indie rock band Lady Bones collaborated with local experimental rock band, Horsehands, to release a 4-song split. Side note, if gremlins made music, I’m certain it would sound something like Horsehands’ contribution.

Hold/Transfer Premier Music Video for “Spoken For”

Studio 52's Capital Idea - Allston Rock City Hall

Allston's premiere practice space announces capital idea with future venue space, Allston Rock City Hall.

Studio 52, Allston’s warehouse-turned-artist-space, known to house some of today’s best and brightest bands including Mellow Bravo, The Field Effect, Big D and the Kids Table, and over 100 more, is just about a few months out from getting that much more in tune with the Boston music scene with the addition of an in-house performance space called Allston Rock City Hall (ARCH).

Positioned as a facility that is an inspiring, clean, and positive environment for artists and musicians to perfect their craft, Studio 52 is run by artists, for artists.

General Manager and Owner Rich Anton, and Director of Operations Glenn Michael decided upon the idea, the way so many of us achieve epic epiphanies, over drinks. Initially, ARCH will operate as a private event hall, sans the sale alcohol or public admission, in hopes to someday acquire a state liquor license. In the meantime, Studio 52’s Allston Rock City Hall is the ideal setting for private parties to art galleries, rock shows to sponsored events.

Bands interested in renting spaces at Studio 52 can swing by their website. Follow the organization on Facebook and Twitter for ARCH updates.

Choke Up - Pilot Passenger / Joaquin Murietta

Pilot Passenger / Joaquin Murietta might be the most beautiful punk rock I’ve heard in a long time. A really smart record.

There’s an element of fascination when art imitates life; when an artist, or in this case, a band of artists, can produce a well-rounded concept of fact and fiction; rich in detail and chiseled to near perfection with integrity and intelligence. Choke Up brings prolific talent to the Boston music scene.

'Tis the season to be so unfamiliar with someone's preferences that you have more of an opinion on Grumpy Cat vs. Lil Bub than you do about what they would really like for Christmas. The Pill Turns The Lights On For Good

My heart broke just a little bit. Although it's been years since I've danced to Metric's "Combat Baby" in the dark while strategically shimming away from that dude with no personal boundaries then coming up for air only to be dragged back to the floor for the mandatory "Bohemian Like You" group hustle, The Pill always will be my favorite jam.

Friday nights at the corner of Comm Ave and Harvard, dressed like hipsters before hip was cool, one upping your friends to get a guy to buy you a beer then leaving him for a chance to dance like an uncoordinated drunk indie princess, Great Scott made all my wildest dreams come true. Since 1997, the weekly dance series has been entertaining Allstonites, but will reportedly turn the lights on for good this Friday, December 20th.

Raise a glass to the best dance party in Boston. Head to Great Scott on Friday, 10pm, 21+, $5. See the official Facebook event page for details. And don't forget to look sharp.

Save Ends' 'Warm Hearts, Cold Hands' Makes Punknews Best of 2013 List

Paul Pendley of Red City Radio ranks Boston band's LP, "record of the year."

Guitarist/singer Paul Pendley of Red City Radio includes Save EndsWarm Hearts, Cold Hands LP in his top picks of 2013 for Punknews. “I agonized over this list for hours, begged the bureaucrats at Punknews to let me do a list of 20 instead of 10, and debated David Frenson as to whether EP’s count (Fuck you, Dave, you sack of shit, my list, my rules) as a “record” or their own category. 2013 was such an amazing year that paring down a list of releases deserving of mention was extremely difficult.”

Singer/drummer Sophia Cacciola explains, “This video was shot by our longtime photographer/videographer Kelly Davidson. We shot it at 5 Wits [at Patriot Place in Foxborough, MA] and created our own story within their sets. Trophy Lungs - "No Judgement" 7" & Record Release Show

Hear No Judgement live at O'Brien's Pub (Allston) November 30th

Boston pop punk trio, Trophy Lungs, will release the anticipated No Judgement 7" (Death to False Hope Records and Drink or Die Records) on November 29th. Earlier this year the band contributed to the This Is New England – A 100% Benefit Compilation, opened for Masked Intruder at the Middle East in Cambridge and most recently toured the East Coast promoting their new record. As a consistent presence in the Boston punk community (these guys are everywhere), Trophy Lungs continue to refine their sound.

In true punk fashion, “Left of Center” opens with an ambiguous sound clip before breaking into the pop punk style Trophy Lungs is known for. I attribute a lot of my fondness for this 7” to bassist Kelly McGuire’s vocals on “Dad’s Away on Business” and guitarist Kevin Bogart's Big D reference, "When 28 bucks is all you got". Although this 3-song sample is primarily one note, Trophy Lungs manages to do it well.

You can catch them live and in action during their Record Release Show at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston on November 30th alongside The Offseason, Rebuilder and Weak Week. Follow Trophy Lungs on Facebook and Twitter for additional show dates. No Judgement will be available for purchase on the band's online merch store on November 29th.
